Mike has been with Sika for 17 years. He was appointed General Manager in 2014. Mike started as Product Engineer and has held various sales and marketing roles, including responsibility for many key areas of Sika’s business such as waterproofing, sealants, adhesives, roofing, flooring and seismic strengthening.
When Mike took over as GM in 2014, he inherited a business with a strong team culture. “Every day, every one of our over 100 staff goes the extra mile to meet our customers’ expectations. I am very proud to be part of a team that works so hard to help our customers succeed.”
We asked Mike what drives him personally. “Sika is a globally recognised leader in many key construction and industry areas. Innovation has been a key driver in that global success. I have a simple philosophy when it comes to managing our team. I genuinely believe that everyone wants to make a positive difference so I encourage all our staff to always look for innovative ways where we can add value for our clients”.
Sika is a global company that has been in New Zealand for over 50 years. They offer products and technology solutions for a wide range of applications in the construction, marine and automotive industries. For example, your car windscreen is probably bonded in with a Sika adhesive, the milk your family drinks may come from a dairy factory with a Sika flooring system or the building you work in might have a Sika waterproofing system installed or have Sika sealants throughout.
They are a local Rosebank business and have been for over 30 years. Their mantra is all about working with their customers to help select a solution that offers long-term durability and peace of mind. “It’s all about Building Trust” says Mike Edwards. “Our customers trust us to deliver the right solution for their unique project requirements”.
In 2010, the Sika Group which has its headquarters in Switzerland celebrated its 100-year anniversary. The Group’s very first project was to waterproof the Gotthard tunnel through the Swiss Alps so electric trains could run on what had until then been safe for steam engines only. Today there are Sika offices in 97 countries and the organisation has over 17,000 employees.
In New Zealand Sika’s business is aligned in seven target markets: concrete, waterproofing, roofing, flooring, sealing and bonding, refurbishment, and industry. We asked Mike what is the future direction for Sika NZ. “Our focus is on making sure we continue to do our core business activities extremely well. In addition, the construction boom now underway in Auckland is opening many new opportunities for us so we definitely are in the right place selling the right products at the right time.
