Richard started his career at Manukau City Council in 1981 as an accountancy cadet finishing as Staff Accountant in 1987. He moved to Corbans Wines in Henderson in 1987 as Financial Accountant leaving in 1992 to join KMS Haircare NZ Ltd as Financial Controller and Co-General Manager in 1997.

Richard helped build the annual turnover from $5 to $8 million over a 10 year period and the company into the leading salon only supplier of Home Haircare Products.

He left in 2002 to start running own businesses. He and his wife, owned Café on Kohi from 2002-2005 and Café Aqua from 2003-2006 before purchasing Tony Ward’s Smash Repairs in 2006.

Richard is a Chartered Accountant and member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants; a current president of BNI Metro and a member of the Collision Repair Association. He has been previously heavily involved in Triathlons including participating in the 1994 Auckland Ironman. He still enjoys running, tennis, swimming and going to the gym.

Richard is married to Geraldine with two young children, Grace and Cooper.
